THE CHALLENGE:
A 100km Canoe challenge from Ben Nevis (Fort William on the West coast of Scotland) to Loch Ness (Inverness on the the East coast of Scotland in 5 days.
The one caveat, you must commit to raising as much as you can for a charity close to your heart.
Along the way we'll learn various canoe techniques including paddle strategies, and rescue. We'll wild camp along the shores of Loch Oich, Loch Longy, and Loch Ness as well as sections of the Great Glen Caledonian Canal, and get some wild swimming in. And we'll learn valuable foraging, bush craft, and natural navigation lessons over the challenge.
The environment is both stunning and occasionally harsh and the wildlife borne from this remote area includes Red Deer, Otter, Pine Marten, Beaver, White Tailed Eagle, Osprey, Red Squirrel, and a plethora of rare birds, plants, and fungi.
WHAT TO EXPECT:
This is not a holiday. No flash accommodation or spa treatments (save for the odd application of Sudocrem). This is a real expedition challenge. The going is arduous but achievable for the relatively fit individual. Don’t worry though, there will be plenty of training opportunities and a tailor made training plan for those who require it.
HOW FIT DO I NEED TO BE? :
You should be moderately fit in order to complete the challenge but it’s always my goal to ensure that you not only complete but enjoy the experience. To that end I organise regular team training sessions which you are welcome to participate in free of charge. We will cover a lot of miles per day over a duration of 5-7 hours but if your confidence is a little low I have prepared training plans to fit your life commitments and get you where you need to be.
COSTS:
Costs and Fundraising guidelines are available on application (please request an Info Pack for further details).
