About this Event
Originally from Edinburgh, Ben began piping at the age of four, receiving early tuition from Donald McBride and Harry McNulty, before studying at the City of Edinburgh Music School under Andrew Wright, continuing tuition with Andrew for over 22 years.
The first Pipe Major of the National Youth Pipe Band of Scotland, Ben joined The Royal Scots Dragoon Guards in 2007, serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. After achieving a double distinction on the Army Pipe Majors Course, he served as Pipe Sergeant Instructor at the Army School of Bagpipe Music & Highland Drumming, and was appointed Pipe Major of The Royal Scots Dragoon Guards in 2018.
An accomplished solo piper, Ben has won multiple Champion Piper titles across the country, including the A Grade MSR at the Northern Meeting 2017 and A Grade Strathspeys & Reels at the Argyllshire Gathering 2018, and as runner up in the Former winners MSR was chosen to compete at the 2025 Glenfiddich Piping Championships.
Ben is currently Assistant Pipe Major at George Watson’s College, Edinburgh, as well as Pipe Sergeant of Field Marshal Montgomery Pipe Band.
The recital will be started by our local piper Grace Kelman.
