5 Weeks Bellydance Classes. Learn the art of bellydance with Raewyn at a slow and steady pace. You will learn the foundation movements, easy routines and combinations to get you dancing. There are three rules in this dance: fun, fun and fun so I welcome and encourage women of any age to come and try not just one class but for 5 weeks to really get a feel for the dance. Bellydance is low impact but you will certainly find yourself moving your body. Raewyn is not a professional dancer though she has been a member of a Nelson Dance Troupe - Zenda Dance up until 2017 dancing at events in Nelson.
She has been dancing since the mid 1990s and she continues to be an eternal student of this beautiful dance form that is uplifting, feminine, culturally inspirational and also considered to have healing elements especially on an emotional, spiritual, mental and community level. Raewyn has been and still is, a dance student who follows Keti Sharif creator of A-Z Bellydance. Keti's courses are rich with a great depth and knowledge of Egyptian Dance having immersed herself in Egyptian Dance and culture whilst living in Egypt for 20+years.
WHO is this DANCE FOR
Women of any age even seniors. I am a senior myself and there are many others who still enjoy dancing.
If you are new to any form of exercise then discussing this with your health profession i.e GP or Nurse is advisable.
No previous bellydance experience is required. If you have already had some experience of bellydance and you would like to re-connect or brush up on your technique then you are most welcome to join in. The routines I will be teaching have variations for different levels.

WHAT TO WEAR
Clothes that are comfortable i.e., exercise wear, leggings and comfy top. It is advisable not to wear jeans.
A scarf to tie around your hips; I do have sparkly scarves for use.
Know that bellydancing is mostly in bare feet; flat sole flexible shoes; ballet type shoes or jazz shoes can also be worn. Gym, running shoes have soles that are not flexible and can hinder foot movement. Your feet are considered to be the foundation of your movements very helpful when sensing weight changes as well as getting to feel grounded or earthy. The hall floor we dance on has carpet but is easy to step on.
WHAT TO BRING
A water bottle, perhaps a small towel if the weather is hot; you, your curiosity seeking and enjoying learning new things.
