Join Jenny for a fun and welcoming beginner belly dance workshop!Jenny grew up in Hull but has just moved back after spending 18 years in France. While living abroad, she discovered belly dance, which opened the door to a passion for movement. Belly dance has deep roots in Middle Eastern and North African cultures, and at Belly with Jenny, we honour its history and traditions with respect and appreciation. This workshop is about movement, joy, and connection, and we recognize the cultural origins of the dance by learning and sharing with awareness.
What to Expect:
A discussion on the history and origins of belly dance and learning the fundamentals of belly dance in a respectful and accessible way.
We’ll explore the basic movements, including:
✨ Hip movements
✨ Figure eights
✨ Arm positions
✨ Steps
✨ Shimmy techniques
Each move will be broken down step by step, and by the end of the session, we’ll put them together in a simple, fun choreography!
What to Wear:
Wear something comfortable that allows you to move freely—leggings and a vest top are perfect. If you feel comfortable showing your midriff, cropped tops are welcome, but not required. Bring a scarf to tie around your waist to help accentuate your movements. Please do not 'fancy dress' for this workshop as this is considered disrespectful.
This workshop is inspired by traditional Middle Eastern and North African dance forms and is approached with deep appreciation and respect for their cultural roots. The goal is to celebrate movement, self-expression, and joy while ensuring cultural understanding and sensitivity.
