Galveston Island, TX - The Belly of the Whale Mental Health Conference will be at the Moody Methodist Church on Galveston Island. This event is a collaboration between the Spiritual Care Network, ADA Women’s Center, and Recovery Oriented Systems of Care (ROSC) with other local nonprofit organizations. Spiritual Care Network is "Widening the Bridge," the annual event is open to the community, mental health professionals, faith leaders, and sober living organizations.
Expert speakers will cover topics on mental wellness, opiate use disorder, overdose prevention with Narcan, and how to find the appropriate help for other compulsive behavioral patterns.
This year’s conference will have a special focus topic different than usual as we will take a closer look at community outreach to unhoused populations, with a particular emphasis on the impact of mental health and substance abuse. At this conference, we will have a range of resources and organizations with exhibit tables, providing valuable tools and support for those serving unhoused populations. Attendees will have the opportunity to connect with these groups, gaining knowledge and insights to better guide their efforts and lead individuals in the right direction toward meaningful support and solutions.
Conference co-chairs are Kimberly Beaty, LCSW-S, and Jacqueline Martinez RN, RSPS. Martinez is the Executive Director of the Spiritual Care Network, serves on the HOPE Drug Court of Galveston County, and leads ROSC Galveston County. Beaty serves as the Executive Director for the ADA Women‘s Center in Galveston.
The conference is an invaluable platform for connecting individuals in the community with services. Guests will be able to visit resource tables with representatives from nonprofit organizations, treatment centers, counselors, hospitals, and other community services, and resources. Mental Health professionals will be able to receive continuing education credit for attending including credit for ethics and diversity.
