Spanish cellist Pablo Ferrández returns to Bozar! With the Belgian National Orchestra conducted by Matthew Halls, he performs Schumann's Cello Concerto. This highly romantic composition avoids excessive virtuosity and focuses on warm lyricism.
"I want to grab fate by the collar. It won't let me down!" Despite the doubts born of his incipient deafness, Beethoven felt his physical and spiritual strength increase in 1801. The Second Symphony, written at this time, is a surprisingly positive work. The bold, inspired and adventurous character of this four-movement composition already heralded Beethoven's heroic style, which was to be fully expressed shortly afterwards in the famous Eroica symphony.
FR ― Le violoncelliste espagnol Pablo Ferrández revient à Bozar ! Avec le Belgian National Orchestra dirigé par Matthew Halls, il interprète le Concerto pour violoncelle de Schumann. Cette composition très romantique évite toute virtuosité excessive et se concentre sur un lyrisme chaleureux.
"Je veux saisir le destin par le col. Il ne me laissera pas tomber !" Malgré les doutes nés de sa surdité naissante, Beethoven a senti ses forces physiques et spirituelles s'accroître en 1801. La Deuxième symphonie, écrite à cette époque, est une œuvre étonnamment positive. Le caractère audacieux, inspiré et aventureux de cette composition en quatre mouvements annonce déjà le style héroïque de Beethoven, qui s'exprimera pleinement peu après dans la célèbre symphonie Eroica.

NL ― De Spaanse stercellist Pablo Ferrández komt naar Bozar! Samen met het Belgian National Orchestra onder leiding van Matthew Halls voert hij Schumanns Celloconcerto uit. Deze hoogromantische compositie schuwt al te grote virtuositeit en zet volop in op warme lyriek.
“Ik wil het noodlot bij de kraag grijpen. Het zal me niet vloeren!” Alhoewel Beethovens beginnende doofheid voor heel wat onzekerheid zorgde, voelde de componist zijn fysieke en geestelijke krachten in het jaar 1801 toenemen. De Tweede symfonie die hij in deze periode schreef, is dan ook een verrassend positief werk. Het gedurfde, geïnspireerde en avontuurlijke karakter van deze vierdelige compositie kondigt reeds Beethovens heroïsche stijl aan die kort daarna in de beroemde Eroica-symfonie volledig tot uiting komt.
