Join us to experience the interior of Watts Cemetery Chapel sonically transformed through an immersive soundscape by Dr Tom Hall and Alison Carlier. The interior of Watts Cemetery Chapel is a visual marvel created by Mary Watts (1849-1938) and her collaborators over several years. In 1905 she described the design with its mass of visual symbols as a ‘mystical garment’ clothing the interior of the chapel.
The immersive soundscape uses sounds from around the site and extracts from Watts’ personal diary to honour her intention for the chapel to be a site of remembrance and solace. Experiencing the work in the chapel invites us to reflect on its meaning and the legacy of its founder Mary Watts.
