Being and becoming a contemplative practitioner
A workshop to foster contemplative intelligence in work, life, and therapy.
About the workshop: This workshop offers an invitation to slow down, to breathe, and to enjoy the opportunity to notice the beauty, wonder, hope and compassion, within ourselves and within our world. Together we will explore and experience simple, contemplative practices that nurture our own spiritual intelligence and holistic self-awareness. In the process of engaging the contemplative we come home to ourselves, we realign our inner and external lives, we touch base with that which most brings us to life. We become aware of our shadows and how to engage with them in compassion, humour and liberating honesty. In the process we become contemplative practitioners, better able to engage our professional duties from a space of calm and unhurried discernment. We are no longer rushing and cramming, we cultivate stillness, we act from wisdom, we respond from a grounded centre, tapping into a compassion beyond our individual capacities and limitations.
The approach to the contemplative in this workshop is drawn from the Christian spiritual tradition and from the scholarship of spirituality and contemplative studies.
About the facilitator: Phil Daughtry (PhD) is an active contemplative, currently serving as Dean of Humanities and Social Sciences at Tabor College (Adelaide and Perth). He is an active member of the International Network for the Study of Spirituality and the Society of the Study of Spirituality. He has published and given papers on spirituality in youth work and the Australian context, as well as in relation to contemplative practices in higher education settings.
Who should come? This workshop will be restorative and informative for pastors, chaplains, counsellors, social workers, educators, leaders and managers, and any other person looking and longing for spiritual renewal in a reflective style and manner.
