Head to The Red Pavilion (1241 Flushing Ave) on Friday November 14 from 7:00 pm - 9:30 pm for a night of soul-stirring melodies tracing the transcontinental journey of jazz and blues. Beijing to Bushwick Blues honors the history of American blues and its cross-cultural resonance in Chinese popular music of the 1930s–1950s known as shidaiqu. Though not traditional blues shidaiqu captures the spirit of the era’s smoky nightclubs where Shanghai met Harlem blending swing rhythms lush melodies and poetic nostalgia. Performed by The Red Pavilion Jazz Band this intimate concert revives the golden age of mid-century Shanghai through expressive arrangements and timeless emotion. Tickets can be purchased here.
