A journalist, a satirist and a Sky News presenter walk into the Frontline Club.
Returning from thirteen years as a foreign correspondent, Michael Peel was astonished at how different Britain looked from the outside. The result was his new book, “What Everyone knows about the British* (*Except the British)”.
In this New Lines magazine event - and summer party - Peel is joined by architect and satirist Karl Sharro (aka Karl Remarks), Sky News presenter and author Barbara Serra, and New Lines editors to discuss how foreigners see the British, and the British see themselves.
Where Brits might like to think of themselves as polite, saying sorry a lot and never queue-barging, others might see complacency and arrogance and a refusal to learn the local language - as well as saying sorry a lot. With Peel to dissect national reputations and foibles will be Sharro, whose satire is indiscriminately aimed, including at the British, and Serra, whose Substack “News with a Foreign Accent” often tackles questions of being an outsider in the UK.
This will be a live recorded podcast to mark the hundredth episode of The Lede, the New Lines magazine podcast.
It will be followed by the magazine’s summer party. There will be cake.

Doors will open at 6.30pm and the event will start at 7pm. As usual, there will be time for conversations and networking after the event.
