About this Event

Join us in the Muttart Theatre, located on the lower level of the Stanley A. Milner Library, for an evening of insight and connection with Edmonton’s top communicators.

Behind the Campaign: Edmonton’s Mayoral Messaging pulls back the curtain on the strategy, storytelling, and creativity that shaped the city’s most recent mayoral race. Hear directly from the communications leads behind five major campaigns as they reflect on lessons learned, challenges faced, and what it takes to engage a city through authentic messaging.

This panel discussion and live audience Q+A offers a rare behind-the-scenes look at how civic storytelling comes to life from research and media relations to digital engagement and rapid response moments.

You’ll hear from:

  • Dan Nielsen from Team Knack
  • Mike Vivian from Team Walters
  • Omar Mohammad from Team Mohammad
  • Alex Hryciw from Team Cartmell
  • Winston Pon from Team Jaffer

Then, stay to network with Edmonton’s communications community, meet fellow professionals, and continue the conversation in a casual, collaborative setting.

Our event and business takes place in Amiskwaciy Waskahikan, which is also called the city of Edmonton. This place is traditional homeland as well as a traditional and present travel route, gathering place and home to many Indigenous people, including the Nehiyawak (Cree), Tsuut’ina, Niitsitapi (Blackfoot), Otipemisiwak (Métis), Nakota Sioux, Haudenosaunee (Iroquois), Déné, Anishinaabe (Ojibway/Saulteaux), Inuit, Métis, and many others.

As communicators, we recognize the responsibility our words and stories carry in shaping understanding and connection. IABC Edmonton honours the histories, languages, and cultures of the First Peoples who have cared for this land since time immemorial, and we are committed to learning from and amplifying Indigenous voices within our professional community and beyond.
