About this Event
Initiated by the Gronthee, a leading south Asian literary platform and Saudha Society of Poetry and Indian music, one of the top promoters of Indian classical and global music, this Begum Rokeya award was announced virtually this year on International Women's Day.Prof Dr Geetha Upadhyaya OBE, the founder of Kala Sangam from the UK, an acclaimed dancer and choreographer Nayanika Ghosh Chowdhury from India and the wife of a legendary military leader of the liberation war of Bangladesh Khaled Mosharraf Bir Uttam, a social activist Salma Khaled has been announced as awardees for this year.
The award is now being handed-over to Prof Geetha Upadhaya physically through this live event and getting handed over to other awardees through a brief live event in India and Bangladesh.
Anchored by the director of Saudha (www.saudha.org) T M Ahmed Kaysher, this live felicitation event at the Banqueting Suite of the Leeds Civic Hall has been sponsored by the Ord mayor of Leeds City Council Cllr Asghar Khan and will feature a few brief talks on the awardee's contribution to the cultural scene of the North; honourable MPs, lords, the lord mayor, councillors as well as cultural leaders will join the session.
