Humans have been making cloth by hand for thousands of years, and the foundation of that cloth is always fiber spun into yarn. Connect to the ancient tradition and fundamental textile practice of hand-spinning, led by textile artist and small business owner, Lori Patterson. This hands-on class includes instruction on how to spin wool yarn using a portable spindle. Lori will guide students through the steps of preparing fiber to spin, offering an overview of tools, and demonstrating drafting and spinning techniques. As an avid knitter, she will also speak to yarn construction for specific uses. Each student will leave with a skein of hand spun yarn that can be used in knitting, weaving, crocheting, or other forms of textile art.No previous experience necessary. This workshop is open to anyone 18 years old & over who meet the Essential Eligibility Criteria for Studio Workshops. All participants must accept the inherent risks of participating in a Studio Workshop and agree to sign a liability waiver.
