This course is suitable for anyone wanting to learn patchwork. Either a beginner or intermediate sewer. Some projects will made and completed in the session. However, homework will be required for the lap quilt. As you will learn the blocks and then have the following weeks to practise your new skills and create more to complete.They are held monthly on Saturdays, at the Lady Fraiser Room, Surfleet. This is a lovely venue, on the ground floor with large tables and lots of electric sockets. Everyone has a 6ft table giving you ample space for your sewing machine and cutting area. Parking is free in the lay-by outside or to the side of the St Laurence Church.
The cost of the course is £175, for tuition, written instructions and some fabrics. It runs over 7 months, no session in August and December. Payment is £25 per month in advance and non-refundable. Please check the dates before booking your place as I may be able to offer you a catch-up session at a different class, along with the written instructions.
You will learn how to make 4 different Patchwork Blocks. The first session all the fabric will be supplied and you will make a 12" Scrappy 4 Disappearing Patch Block. Which you can make into a bag or cushion. This is also the basis for Block A and Block B of our Lap Quilt. We will discuss the fabric requirements for the Lap Quilt.
Starting with the basics you will learn:
-Choosing the right fabric and how to prepare it. Which Wadding and Interfacing to use for the project that you are making.
-How to use a rotary cutter and cut accurately.
-Piece blocks using a ¼” seam and options on how to achieve this
-Importance of pressing and not ironing
-How to make a quilt sandwich, mark the quilt design and using your machine to quilt
-A basic 4 Patch Block Scrappy Block, Raw Edge Applique, Dresden Plate block, These can be used to make a cushion or Flimsy Quilt by making more blocks at home.
-Quilted Tote Bag with flap, magnetic clasp and dividing pocket.

You will need to bring your own sewing machine and basic sewing kit. As well as purchase the fabrics and wadding to make each project. Plus a mug and your lunch.
I will provide 2 Ironing Stations, rotary cutters, mats, and rulers for you to use in class. Plus quilting essentials - tea, coffee and cake.
If you have your own equipment please bring it along.
Classes are small and friendly ensuring everyone gets the chance to work at their pace. That means places are limited and cannot be filled if you are unable to attend
