The course focuses on map reading and covers navigating without a compass, mainly using rights of way. It includes an introduction to map types and scales; map symbols; the National Grid system; grid references; distances; contours and the shapes of the terrain; orientating the map using topographical features and relating it to the ground.
Event Grade: Easy - short walks on paths that may be rough and uneven. Taken at a leisurely pace. May involve stiles and rough ground.
