Discover the transformative power of improv with us this Autumn! Our foundation course in improv is full of fun and laughter. The workshop-style classes are playful, sociable, and creative, held in an inclusive, supportive, and safe space, that welcomes diverse people from all walks of life and corners of society.
Over 6 weekly sessions, you’ll learn the key skills and principles of improv, a dynamic and collaborative theatrical art form that is not only entertaining but equips you with invaluable personal skills for the stage we call life.
This course is perfect for:
Absolute Beginners: No previous improv, acting, drama or comedy experience is necessary. People join for various reasons, such as:
• Growing confidence in different areas of life
• Unlocking imagination and stimulating creativity
• Challenging themselves outside their comfort zone
• Connecting with new people and making friends
• Being in the moment and calming an anxious mind
• Adapting to change
• Laughing, having fun, and de-stressing
• Fuelling their funny bone
• Enhancing performance
• The sheer love of improv
Former Improvisers: If you’re looking to return to improv, this course is an excellent refresher in the FUNdamentals. It's also an ideal introduction to our methodology and community if you have experience from elsewhere.
What you will experience: Improv is about collaborative and supportive teamwork, not solo performances, competing or telling jokes. Over 6 weekly classes, you’ll bond with your fellow students and teachers and gradually build your skills together. There is no being thrown into the deep end!
You’ll play in group games, pairs exercises, and as the course progresses, take part in short improvised scenes. You’ll learn essential techniques like ‘Accept and Build,’ the ‘Who What Where’ of storytelling, the ‘Status’ of relationships, and discover how risk-taking and positively responding to mistakes leads to new-found confidence and creativity. You’ll emerge with a solid foundation in the FUNdamentals of improv and have an utterly brilliant time getting there.
