About this Event
The course will consist of both virtual and in-person sessions.
Virtual Session: Zoom Meeting
The first session of the course will take place on Zoom. During this session, we will introduce you to the basics of hill walking, including:
Planning and preparation: We will cover the importance of planning and preparation before heading out into the hills, including selecting appropriate routes, checking the weather forecast, and packing essential equipment.
Navigation: We will teach you how to read a map and use a compass, so you can confidently navigate your way through the hills.
Safety: We will discuss the potential hazards of hill walking, including exposure to the elements, injury, and getting lost, and how to mitigate these risks.
Leave No Trace: We will explain the Leave No Trace principles, which are essential for minimizing the impact of hill walking on the environment.
In-Person Session: Day Hike
The second session of the course will be an in-person day hike. During this session, you will have the opportunity to put your newly acquired skills into practice. The day hike will be led by our experienced instructors, who will guide you through a scenic route and help you to navigate any challenging terrain. The day hike will be suitable for beginners, and we will adjust the pace to suit the group's ability level. We recommend that you wear comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing and footwear, and bring a packed lunch and snacks.
