This workshop will be suitable or complete beginners, for those who have been trying to learn to crochet themselves and feel they may need some in-person support, or as a refresher if you’ve crocheted before.

We will cover the crochet basics;

o explore and experiment with different ways to hold your hook and yarn

o learn to make crochet chains

o learn and practice two basic stitches you’ll need to begin your crochet journey

o learn to work in rows

o make a granny square

o we will also consider the importance of tension and using different weights of yarn

The humble granny square can enhance any blanket with beautiful colour and texture, as well as a plethora of other makes. Learning to make a granny square can provide an essential construct of beginner’s crochet.

Remember that in crochet it’s easy to take your work back and start again – relax.

In our morning workshop using a double crochet stitch you’ll learn how to crochet in rows. Using this technique, you may choose to make fingerless mitts, a scarf, a headband, a cowl or a blanket.

In our afternoon workshop we move onto the traditional granny square, learning how to make a treble stitch and will explore some options with our granny square; do we want to make lots of little granny squares to join or keep going in rounds to make an infinity granny blanket, or maybe you’ve an idea in mind waiting for this mindful little square.

By the end of your workshops, you will also have some understanding of how to follow a pattern giving you the foundations to build on in the crochet world.

Practice and dedication are essential to learning any new skill and will build and grow confidence.

Requirements for beginners crochet workshop; At least 300g of dk yarn in three different colours, and a 4 mm crochet hook.

Yarn and hooks will be available in the shop to buy before your workshop starts. I’d suggest coming along early if you wish to purchase materials on the day, and I’ll be available to help with yarn choices.
