
About this Event
Participants will learn how to crochet over this 4 week course. This course is ideal for beginners, or someone with little knowledge of crochet. We will cover reading patterns, multiple crochet stitches and learn step by step how to make a mesh tote bag, perfect for summer!
Who you are: You are brand new to crochet or have little knowledge of crochet. Or someone who knows how to crochet and just wants to make a tote bag with the class.
Class Structure: Hands-on class lead by textile extraordinaire, Keelin Maloney. We will meet every Monday for 4 weeks, 6-8pm. Weather permitting, we can schedule classes outdoors.
Class Curriculum:
Week one: The basics- how to hold a crochet hook, how to single and double crochet, how to chain, how to start a project.Week Two: Reading the pattern. We will go over basics for reading a crochet pattern and will begin our bag.Week three: Work week! Working on the body of the bag. Important to come to next class with body of bag completed.Week four: Finishings, straps and sides of bags.
This course's classes are: Monday 9/22, 9/29, 10/6, and 10/13.
What to Bring:
1 color of medium weight, thicker cotton or acrylic yarn.
We would usually provide, but we wanted to allow attendees to customize their yarn colors. We suggest to buy your yarn secondhand at the or a thrift store. If you want to buy new we suggest , or any craft store.

Outcomes: Participants will create and design a farmers market tote bag, and will be confident in starting other crochet projects by learning and reading patterns.

Meet your teacher
Keelin is a Providence native, textile lover, and host of our knitting club! She has a background in hand knitting, machine knitting, weaving and natural dyeing. Her years in fine art school have lead her to create knit collections and participate in local sustainable fashion projects.
