About this Event
Course Overview
This course begins with an introduction to a variety of hand-building techniques, exploring what each one can create. You'll have space to develop your own ideas and find the techniques that resonate most with you. Once you’re familiar with working with clay by hand, we'll gradually introduce students to throwing on the wheel, offering two-at-a-time guidance for a focused experience.
Basic materials are provided, and we’ll suggest any additional tools or supplies based on your projects. By the end of the course, you’ll feel confident with your skills and ready to explore ceramics on a deeper level.
About the Tutor
Lucy Baxendale is a Ceramicist, Illustrator & Community Artist based in rural Herefordshire.
Fascinated by the journey from two-dimensional sketches to three-dimensional sculptures, Lucy explores the shifting relationships between the lines in her drawings. As these lines transition into tangible forms, their narratives also evolve.
The outcome of these explorations are one-of-a-kind 3D drawings, intentionally unglazed and stained to echo the essence of a sketch. Through her work, Lucy bridges the realms of imagination and materiality. She invites observers to witness the evolution of lines into stories, forging connections between the drawn and the sculpted.
Lucy was listed as Craft and Design magazines ‘One to watch’ in 2011 and chosen as one of Ceramics Monthly’s emerging artists in 2022
