You know that feeling when you see one of the new marvel movies- or some epic karate fable- and you just want to... punch your friends? It may sound absolutely ridiculous on paper, but if you've ever tried doing this human thing called storytelling, you might have come across the sudden urge to rough house and play with your friends. Don't worry- you're not broken, this is entirely normal! But you need to learn the proper method to be able to do this safely! In this workshop, we will learn basic stage combat safety by performing various stage falls. We will also learn how to work with a partner to safely rehearse and perform a basic stage slap and punch. All of this will lead into discussing what it means to tell a story that involves combatants. Students will learn how to create stage combat by connecting to the emotional through line of a scene, how to properly rehearse that staging, and ultimately- how to stage their short scene for the class! No experience is necessary. Movement clothes are recommended. Audience members are welcome to view the final scenes! And no knowledge of super heroes or stories is required. But also- if you happen to be one, we will keep your secret safe.
