This class is for people who are new to skate skiing, who would like a review of the basics, or who feel like they haven’t made much progress learning on their own. Skate skiing evolved from a classic ski technique called marathon skate (side note: the best ski technique ever!), and was popularized in the early 1980s by US skier Bill Koch after he used a two sided version of the marathon skate to win the 1982 World Cup. The techniques of skate skiing and the equipment (skis, boots and skate pole length) have changed a whole lot since then. In addition to on-snow techniques we will also cover the basics of ski equipment fit (boots, skis, poles) and what kind of clothing to wear. Please review the descriptions of the Level 1 and 1+ (Beginner and Beginner +) skate skier to see where you fit.
This class will be held on the ski trails at either Snowflake Nordic Center or Grand Avenue Nordic Center depending on the snow conditions.
