Curious how to begin or improve your Plein air painting practice? Join accomplished Plein air painter Bruno Baran for this “Beginner Plein Air Painting” Workshop at Highlandtown Gallery.
Painting outside the walls of your studio provides both a creative opportunity and a few challenges. As President of the Mid Atlantic Plein Air Painters Association, Bruno has a wealth of knowledge to share with you.
This informative session will focus on Plein air painting using oils and acrylics. Bruno will also review materials needed for successful Plein air painting from canvas to paint, and brushes -- including sharing his favorites.
Students will learn how to plan the design of their composition before adding paint to canvas. Topics include:
- What are "Notans" and why are they important?
- The importance of good drawing skills.
- Compositional formats that create a strong image.
- Utilizing various Plein air devices to improve composition
- Pros and cons of various mediums
- Brushes and other useful tools
- Mixing and blending techniques
Materials to bring to class:
- Sketch Book for making notes and drawings
- Black brush marker for creating notans.
- Photos or inspiration images that will be used to create notans and drawings for paintings.
