Join us for a 2.5 hour Beginner Birding Workshop at Heritage Hills Wetland in Sherwood Park Alberta. High quality binoculars rental and comfy harness provided. We will meet at the Highland Dr. entrance to Heritage Hills Wetland in Sherwood Park to embark together on a fun 2.5 hour outdoor beginner Birding workshop . We will enjoy an immersive nature experience and slow down and tune into our environment as a group. There have been 174 species of birds recorded at the Heritage Hills Wetland and we will identify as many as we can in this urban wetland. We will be on the lookout for North America’s largest Woodpecker , the Pileated Woodpecker, Northern Flickers, White Breasted Nuthatches, Red Breasted Nuthatches, Downy and Hairy Woodpeckers, Dark Eyed Juncos, Blue Jays and migratory waterfowl like Ruddy Ducks, Common Goldeneyes, Gadwalls, Hooded Mergansers and Pied Billed Grebes. We will provide a pair of quality Nikon Binoculars as a rental to use on this walk , a comfy binocular harness and 2.5 hours of outdoor fun and connection in nature learning the keys to becoming a better beginner birder including, where to look for what types of birds in the tree canopy, the ethics of birding, field marks and using a field guide, birding by habitat and behaviour and the art of birding by ear. We will demo useful birding apps as well as apps to help with native plant identification. Please dress for the weather, the trail we are on is in a residential area around naturalized storm ponds and is fairly flat, some sections have board walks and some sections can be slightly muddy . Please bring water and dress in layers. There are no public washrooms at this location. There is street parking available, and the location of the meeting area will be provided once you book with us. We are proud to be members of Indigenous Tourism Alberta and we appreciate your support.
