Beethoven Piano Trio No. 1 in E-flat major, Op. 1 No. 1 (1795)Beach Piano Trio in A minor, Op. 150 (1938)
Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827) was a German composer and pianist. He is one of the most admired composers in the history of Western music. The Op. 1 compositions are the earliest ones he had produced that were substantial enough (and marketable enough) to fill out a first major publication to introduce his style of writing to the musical public.
Amy Beach (1867-1944) was an American composer and pianist. She was one of the first American composers to succeed without the benefit of European training, and one of the most respected and acclaimed American composers of her era. The Piano Trio is steeped in the developmental processes of late-nineteenth-century models while quoting two Inuit folk songs.
Two Chestnut Center for the Arts artists in residence will be featured with an open house during the concert. Come for the art, stay for the music.
