Beer And Taxes And How Henry George Can Solve All Your Problems
Do you think there’s not enough housing? Do you find paying rent unpleasant? Do you think the suburbs are a failed experiment? Did you know Monopoly was designed by a Georgist to demonstrate the pitfalls of our land-use regime? Are you lonely? The Land Value Tax can solve it all. Maybe.
Please come drink a beer and talk about taxes with me.
None of us made the land.
We all need land.
Our laws allow the hoarding of land.
(Also, let's talk about sortition, the forming of legislative bodies through random selection. This is one of the few reforms to the structure of government that I think would be effective at combating the two-party system, rule-by-the-rich, campaign finance corruption, and career politicians who are not representative of the people, and voter engagement. It's a doozy.)
(Also, I just bought The Landlord's Game, a replica of the 1906 edition. So if you feel like you need a refresher on Monopoly, we could play it.)
