Third Place Books welcomes Lake Forest Park author Becky Gibler for a discussion of her moving photographic memoir of loss, Borne of Grief and Flow, in conversation with Debby Handrich. This event is free and open to the public. Registration is required in advance. This event will include a public signing and time for audience Q&A.
When her partner of 19 years died suddenly, Becky Gibler's only respite came from many hours of leaning into the craft of photography and the words she wrote to accompany the images. Her first book, Borne of Grief and Flow was not compiled originally for publication, but for her own personal healing. This book of photography and short journaled entries walks you through Gibler’s experience as she accepted loss and began each new season.

About Borne of Grief and Flow. . .
Living with grief is a very individual and lonely process. Confusion, memory loss, and disrupted sleep become the new normal. Sometimes grief can feel constant and unforgiving. This book of photography and short journaled entries walks you through the journey of first-time author Becky Gibler’s experience as she accepted loss and began each new season. It’s meant to bring hope and light to those who can’t see their way through the darkness. Grief is an overwhelming process that the author pinpoints as “getting better,” not due to time passing, but due to creating new meaning and new experiences.

Praise for Borne of Grief and Flow. . .
"Pairing breathtaking photography of the Seattle area with poignant prose, local author/photographer Becky Gibler takes readers on a deeply personal journey through grief after losing her partner of 19 years. It is deeply moving and I would highly suggest it to anyone who is mourning someone they love. Becky has accomplished something incredible here. While the book features an LGBTQ+ relationship (which is not often depicted in this genre) she proves that, truly, love is love. This book is for anyone who has loved or lost and I thank her for writing it."
—Brandon M., Bookseller
Becky Gibler received her first camera when she was 7 years old and quickly fell in love with photography. For years, she gifted friends with framed art of wildlife and nearby attractions. When her partner of 19 years died suddenly, she was left with a shattered life and a future of lost dreams. Her only respite came from many hours leaning into the craft of photography and the words she wrote to accompany the images. Her first book, Borne of Grief and Flow was not compiled originally for publication, but for her own personal healing. After much soul-searching, she realized she wanted to help individuals of all ages and backgrounds who are grieving so they might not feel so alone.
Talk Show Host and Life Coach, Debby Handrich, brings stories of courage and self-discovery to the airwaves every Thursday on KKNW’s Story U Talk Radio. After a long career of teaching writing at Seattle and Shoreline Community Colleges, she now helps new authors write their memoirs.
