About this Event
BEAUTIFUL DATA
It is time to bring the BEAUTIFUL DATA sessions on stage.
In this edition of BEAUTIFUL DATA the focus is on communi-craft.
Meet the first and main speakers:
DORO OTTERMANN - A Million One Dollar Ideas
In this talk Doro will show you some pragmatic tools to deal with ideas on a daily basis. Where to find new ideas, how to treat them politely, how to multiply and transform them. And what to do, when they misbehave and lead absolutely nowhere. (And of course, there's some Data, too!)
Doro is a Hamburg based artist. After studying one semester of French and History at University by accident she started studying Visual Communication/Media at the University of Fine Arts in Hamburg on full purpose. She finished in 2007 with her diploma project „Fundbüro" with hundreds of random items she found on the streets: love/hate-letters, photographies, raps, ...
After working as an illustrator and author of the successful series of fill-in-the-blanks-diaries "Tagebuch fur..." for more then 10 years, she now focuses on everyday art. With versatile techniques (from illustration to animation and data knitting...) and a big heart for nonsense she searches for the special in the ordinary, for the playful and funny side of life.
MELINDA SIPOS - Expressions of data physicalisation
Melinda's artistic focus is on transforming datasets to data sculptures. In recent years she created an installation about the situation of childbirth in Hungary, has worked on data sculptures for the Museum of Ethnography in Budapest, researched and materialized the network of people at a network science lab. In her talk she will introduce different approaches and processes to artistic expression of data physicalization through her own practice.
Melinda is an artist working on data based installations and pursues her related doctoral studies at the Moholy-Nagy University of Arts (MOME). She has conducted numerous workshops on data physicalization guiding others through creative processes in academia as well as in adult training programs both in Hungary and worldwide. Occasionally, she holds tinkering workshops for kids.
Sipos was recently a Fulbright Visiting Researcher at Network Science Institute/Barabasi Lab, Northwestern University, Boston. Currently she lives and works in Budapest, Hungary.
