About this Event
Saturday March 18th
2 Beam Center workshops for Kids and Adults
Stained Glass Ornaments from 10 am - 12 pm
Stained glass: Inspired by the ways in which light will engage with the Big Project we will be building at Beam Camp this summer, Welcome Beacon designed by Mayowa Tomori and Michael Runge, we will be making small, stained glass pendants with STEAM Event attendees. The project will be a combination of copper bending, arranging glass into designs, and assembly of the pendants through soldering.
Mood Glasses from 1:30 pm - 3:30 pm
Mood Glasses: Mood Glasses, is a pair of cardboard glasses that enable wearers to mix, match and combine different colors and lenses based on how they’re feeling on any given day, and to see the world through a new light.
Dancing Oobleck: If weather permits, Project Leaders will also be making Oobleck bounce on a speaker in front of the gallery using the frequency of sound to control the movement of this non-Newtonian substance.
Space is limited for this drop-in workshop.
Workshops are free but donations to Beam Center are appreciated!

Why Not Art + Beam Center welcome you to a collaborative art exhibition featuring 19 Beam-connected artists and offering artworks for sale to benefit Beam Center's youth development program.
Hosted at Compère Collective in Brooklyn, “Catalyst” explores the ways in which artists act as catalysts for change and collaboration. Drawing artists from more than a decade of Beam Center’s history, the show highlights the relationships between Beam, artists, and the young people at the center of their arts & youth development practice.
Beam Center will host hands-on workshops on two weekends in March.
A portion of all sales related to the exhibition will benefit our work with young people across NYC.
