Beading Workshop with Marcy FriesenSaturday, October 4 · 10AM–12:30PM | Free to the Public
Join us for a special Culture Days event at the Mann Art Gallery—a hands-on workshop with artist Marcy Friesen, where participants will learn to create her beaded cigarettes using peyote stitch in the lanyard technique.
Marcy Friesen, of Swampy Cree and Welsh ancestry, lives with her family on a mixed farm near Carrot River, Saskatchewan. She comes from a long line of traditional master beaders and creative makers, and has always felt a deep connection to creating. Through her business, Trapline Creations, Marcy began by crafting utilitarian pieces, but after visiting a modern art gallery in Saskatoon, her focus shifted toward creating thought-provoking “useless” art.
In her work, Marcy uses beads, leather, and furs in unexpected ways to spark conversations around mental health, racism, and residential schools. Over time, she’s discovered that her “useless” art has deep meaning and impact.
This workshop is limited to 20 participants. Please RSVP through our website to reserve your spot.
Offered in advance of her upcoming exhibition at the Mann Art Gallery this October, this is a unique opportunity to learn from a skilled artist and engage with the cultural and personal stories behind her work.
All materials are provided, and no experience is necessary. Come connect, create, and be part of this inspiring Culture Days event.
