Alutiiq Culture Camp 2026 – Beaded Glass Float WorkshopWe are excited to open this year’s Alutiiq Culture Camp with a hands-on Beaded Glass Float Workshop, focused on creating beaded nets over antique glass fishing floats.
This art form is longstanding for Alaskan Native people, beaded glass floats have been made and used by many Alutiiq/Sugpiaq people since at least the past 70+ years, reflecting creativity, adaptation, and continuity within our communities. This workshop honors that living practice through shared learning and making.
Participants will learn how to create a beaded net and fit it over antique Japanese glass floats. These floats were collected this past August in Port Heiden - Meshik during a beach walk made possible by my wonderful cousin, her husband, and other generous community members. A special quyanaa to John and Jaclyn Christensen, who donated these glass floats so they could be used for Culture Camp—your generosity helps make this workshop possible.

(All other materials will be provided.)
👥 Space is limited to 9 participants.
If you have your own glass float you’d like to bring, please message me (Jessica Towns-Camara or Camp on FB) —this may allow us to accommodate a few additional participants.
