About this Event
WE NEED TASTING JUDGES for a variety of cooking competitions at the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo Bar-B-Que Cook-Off on Friday January 28, 2022 and Saturday January 29, 2022. You don’t need any experience to be a judge, just a willingness to taste some of THE BEST BBQ in Texas! All judges must be 18 years of age or older and have no food allergies. In order to judge the Bloody Mary competition, judges must be 21 years of age or older and present a valid ID.
The San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo Bar-B-Que Cook-Off (SABBQ) is a championship event sanctioned by the International Bar-B-Que Cookers Association (IBCA) and features some of the world's most competitive Bar-B-Que teams, LIVE music, family activities, a BBQ trade show, a kids cook-off, shopping and much more. SABBQ is one of several events kicking off the Rodeo Season. Proceeds from this event benefit the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo Scholarship Fund.
The judging start times are listed below; plan to arrive at least 30 minutes prior to the competition you sign up to judge to allow for check-in and directives.

Saturday, January 29th:10:30am - Chicken;1:00pm - Pork Spare Ribs; 3:30pm - Beef Brisket
ALL JUDGES MUST PURCHASE AN EVENT TICKET. Tickets to the event can be pre-purchased through the event website (see below) for $13 each day or $25 for a weekend combo. Military personnel with valid ID and children 12 and under are free. Tickets are also available at the gate for $15 each day. Parking tickets are also available for pre-purchase at $10 per day or with cash at the event.
The tasting competition takes place at the Bolner Fiesta Judging Tent on the event grounds; maps of the event will be available at the gate upon entry. Only judges are allowed inside the judging tent, including the fenced waiting area. All judges will receive two drink tickets to utilize during their waiting period. Drinks include water, soda and beer. We ask that you choose no more than two competition categories to judge in order to allow as many interested event goers as possible to participate.

Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?
All ages are welcome at the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo Bar-B-Que Cook-Off. However, you must be at least 18 years old to be a tasting judge and at least 21 years old to judge the Bloody Mary competition.
What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?
Offsite parking will be available. Shuttles will drop off and pick up at the Main Gate. Handicap parking and shuttles will be available. Allow yourself plenty of time to account for parking and event entry. Parking can be purchased online in advance of the event, or with cash at the event.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?
We will have a list of all registered judges, so no Eventbrite judging ticket is necessary. However, you must separately purchase a ticket to gain entry to the event.
What's the refund policy?
If you do not get to judge for ANY REASON, you will NOT be refunded for your general admission ticket to SABBQ. All sales are final. SABBQ reserves the right to deny patrons from judging for any reason including but not limited to:
- Do not meet age qualifications
- Have registered for too many events
- Arrive at the event late
- Arrive intoxicated
