Bays Mountain Park - 3.5 miles - HikePLEASE READ EVENT DETAILS COMPLETELY.
No Reservations Required. All hikes are generosity based. Simply show up and pay what the experience is worth to you, or what you can afford. No one should ever feel the need to pay for a child under 16, though. We want more kids to get outside and moving.

Meet-up Details:
9:30am - We will meet on location at Bays Mountain Park in Kingsport, TN in front of the Planetarium. Please use these GPS directions https://maps.app.goo.gl/1TgxPvqeUCAB2VSRA to get there on time. Please note, there is a $5 entrance fee to get into the park.
There are restrooms at the trailhead, just fyi.
Hike - The hike is about a 3.5 mile loop around the lake. We will start by going through some of the outdoor animal exhibits, so you get the full experience of being at Bays. The hike is very kid friendly, and is on a wide trail for the most part with good footing. Some of the highlights on the hike will be the wolves (fenced in, of course), the lake, a bridge over the lake, and walking across the dam. I will also lead a hike up to the observation tower if anyone is interested in getting some more mileage in and seeing the view from there. That portion will add on another mile at the end and will have a little elevation to it as well.
The park has lots of other trails, a planetarium, a fire tower, and a ropes course if anyone wants to stick around for more.
Be sure to bring drinks and snacks for the hike.
Additional Notes - Please be sure to consult with your physician to make sure you are fit enough to hike. This is a voluntary outing so sign up at your own risk. We will have a guide take you on the hike, but you will be responsible for your own well being (water, food, safety, medical supplies, etc.). Unplug SWVA is not responsible for any illness or injuries you may encounter from hiking with our group.
Please do not bring electronic devices that may distract you, or others, on the hike (i.e. iPads, game consoles, headphones, music, etc.). The whole point of this group is to get away from distractions and unplug ourselves in SWVA. Feel free to take photos and videos though, it's going to be beautiful!

We will not be hiking fast. The whole point of this group is to enjoy the outdoors together, not to race one another. We usually average 1.5 miles/hr.
