Join us on Thursday, February 26th for a special screening and conversation with filmmakers Phanat Xanamane, Ba Bader, and Sami Haggood as they share Bayous, Buddha, and Padaek: Southern Louisiana’s Lao Foodways, a beautiful two-part documentary celebrating food, family, and cultural memory in South Louisiana. Through the voices of three generations, the film explores how Lao Buddhist immigrants preserve cherished culinary traditions while creatively blending them with Cajun and Creole influences, forging deep connections to both their heritage and the Louisiana landscape.
Developed through a 2022 American Folklife Center Community Collections Grant and supported by the Library of Congress, this project grew out of an interview project focusing on the Lao Lunar New Year Festival.
