Join Ryan Flanigan (Baylor's theological artist-in-residence and founder of Liturgical Folk) for Baylor's second annual songwriting retreat.
About this Event

This retreat is for songwriters (singer/songwriters, worship songwriters, lyricists, composers, etc.) who desire a dedicated time to create, collaborate, and commune with other songwriters. This is not a teaching or a workshop. It is simply a focused time to make something beautiful and to share with one another what we've made.

Ryan Flanigan, Baylor's theological artist-in-residence, will lead the retreat. Ryan is a published songwriter working mainly in devotional and liturgical spaces. He is the founder of Liturgical Folk, who seek to make beautiful and believable sacred music for church folk and the world. Ryan has led dozens of songwriting retreats and will provide guided instruction and encouragement.

For this retreat we have the honor of partnering with the the Dunn Center for Christian Music Studies (CCMS) on their grant for children's spiritual growth. Their vision is: Shaping Young Worshipers through Tranformative Music Ministry. So, we will focus our writing towards this vision. Themes of childlikeness, playfulness, lightheartedness, what Jesus thinks of children, what we can learn from children, etc.

The retreat is free for current Baylor students, with room for 25-30 attendees. You do not need to be an expert songwriter to attend.

The retreat will be held in the Great Hall at Truett Seminary on Friday, January 31 (2pm-10pm) and Saturday February 1 (8am-4pm). All meals are provided.

Those who attend may also be invited to share their newly created songs at the Baylor Church Music Forum on Monday evening, February 3rd.
