About this Event
Please join the Pennsylvania Legislative Black Caucus, the LGBTQ+ Equality Caucus, the Pennsylvania Youth Congress, and the LGBT Center of Central Pennsylvania in a celebration happy hour for Bayard Rustin's birthday at Karma. A PA House Resolution honoring his life is planned for a committee vote earlier in the day, March 17th.
We will gather with friends over delicious drinks and cocktails, and have brief remarks from State Rep. Andre Carroll and special guest cable news contributor + Forbes contributing writer Richard A. Fowler.
Karma is located directly across from the State Capitol Complex on North 3rd Street.
A not-to-miss event open to all — free to attend. Karma is opening on Monday only for this event. Please register here to join us.
Bayard Rustin (1912–1987), a native of West Chester, PA, was a leading force in the Civil Rights Movement and social justice throughout his life. He held numerous key leadership roles including being the principal organizer of the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom in 1963. As an out Black gay man, he has often been under appreciated for his major impact in American history. Today, there are now films on his life including Brother Outsider and Neflix's Rustin, and a high school named for him in Chester County.
