On June 8th, 1844, during a scouting expedition into the uninhabited Hill Country, sixteen recently authorized Republic of Texas “mounted gunmen,” encountered what their Ranger leader, Major John Coffee Hays, described as “sixty to seventy Comanches, Wacos and Mexicans.” What happened next during this early summer 1844 engagement in the unpopulated wilds of future Kendall County would ultimately become legend. Come join the Kendall County Historical Commission on June 8th @ 10:00 as they gather in the Boerne Patrick Heath Public Library community room to commemorate the Battle of Walker’s Creek on its 180th anniversary. More details to come.
