Please join us as we come together to celebrate the achievements of our students and reinforce meaningful connections from across the capoeira community and beyond. This year’s event kicks off with a week-long series of workshops with Mestre Cabello (Brazil) and will culminate with a Batizado and Formatura where Instructor Aguaceiro will be graduating to Professor. We have an international line up of other official guests including: Mestre Pinga Fogo, Irineu Nogueira (Germany), Contramestra Amazonas, Formado Azulão (Kenya), and Othnell Mangoma Moyo (Zimbabwe). Event workshops on Capoeira, Capoeira Angola, berimbau, musicality with voice and instrumentation, African dance, Afro-samba, and chitende (an African bow instrument from Zimbabwe) will be offered with a special focus on the roots of this didactic art form.
In addition, a special performance is being organized to highlight the Afrocentric origins of Capoeira and will include choreography and musical excerpts inspired by traditions in West Africa, Angola, and Zimbabwe, among others. The performance will begin with a presentation of capoeira followed by three vignettes showcasing how the dance, the fight, and the music of African culture has influenced the Afro-Brazilian art to be what it is today.
