We'll be having a Batchelor Party at Ryans Hotel, Thirroul, on Friday, March 21, 2025.
Johnny's band of local luminaries: Yani Socratous (Drums); Lee Borkman (Keys) and Anthony Pingnam (Bass), will play his well received new EP, and a selection from the back catalogue including some re-workings of Dropbears singles and some classic pop songs. This night will be the local launch for the latest track, 'Proud Kind Man'.
The new songs and videos have been racking up substantial numbers on Spotify and YouTube and extensive indie radio play across the US and UK.
Batchelor Party will be joined by young Wollongong indie-popsters Spill Kit - it's a night not to be missed ... And it's free!
Johnny Batchelor has a history within Australian music dating from the notorious 80s Sydney scene: His band Dropbears shone brightly and seemed to be everywhere, appearing on Countdown and touring with the major acts of the time including U2, The Cure, New Order and INXS. His songs … well, Fun Loving is an Aussie indie classic, Proud, Shall We Go, In Your Eyes and Work and Save were all over the airwaves - check out the so 80s videos @dropbears80s.
Johnny’s been releasing new tunes since mid 2024 and the response has been sensational: streams for the EP have just clicked over 250,000 (Spotify) and are continuing to build; video views have exceeded 260,000 on YouTube (@lanewaymusic and @dropbears80s); plus there's been widespread indie radio airplay in the US and UK (the latest song Bad Mood Bad Groove has debuted at No.12 on The Indie Radio Alliance Top 100 (Jan. 15 ’25) and Anemone made Bill Kelly’s top ten picks for 2024 on Little Steven’s Underground Garage and SiriusXM).
Spill Kit are a 4 piece from Wollongong, who delve into the sounds of shoegaze, dream-pop, indie and post punk. Inspired by many 80s/90s and contemporary guitar bands such as DIIV and The Cure, they are sure to give listeners nostalgic tones, with a modern edge.
