WE'RE SORRY, THIS EVENT HAS FILLED AND WE CAN NO LONGER TAKE REGISTRATIONS.Bat & Moth Night Hike
Friday, August 29, 8:30 – 10 pm
Bow in the Clouds Preserve
3401 Nazareth Rd, Kalamazoo, MI 49048
This event is free, but limited to 25 participants.
Join SWMLC naturalist Jessica Hagen and citizen scientist Beth Keith (who has been conducting acoustic bat research on some SWMLC preserves and other area locations) for an exploration of urban nocturnal ecosystems!
We’ll take a stroll around Bow in the Clouds Preserve while learning more about Michigan’s native and migratory bat species and their critical role in functioning ecosystems. Participants will observe bats in real-time using a portable bat detector, making it possible to hear, identify, and record nearby bats!
In addition, we’ll survey moths (important nighttime pollinators and bat food) using a sheet and UV light and record our observations on iNaturalist, which helps scientists track local biodiversity.
Additional info
