The Bassett Boys’ Schoolroom when it opened in 1862 where James Bassett taught until his death in 1875. During the 1890s the Schoolroom became a Church of England School until it was purchased by the District Council of Willunga in 1896 and served as Council Chamber and meeting room until 1962. Now under the care of the National Trust it has been used as a music studio and art gallery, before reverting to its original purpose as a schoolroom. Behind the Schoolroom is the Wirra Creek Community Garden.Urban Sketchers Fleurieu have an opportunity to showcase our group and our works in an up and coming exhibition at Waverley Homestead. Sara Livsey from Willunga National Trust who curates the exhibitions at Waverley Homestead is curating an exhibition opening in November (running for 3 months) which will feature the 4 National Trust buildings in Willunga…the Courthouse, the Stables behind the Courthouse, Waverley Homestead and Bassett Boys' Schoolroom. Sara would like to include a Sketchboard in the exhibition where sketches of any of these buildings by our members will be displayed. Sketches can be lent or donated by the sketcher or permission given for a photo of the your sketch to be printed and displayed. If you would like to participate sketches should be done on a single sheet that can be donated or lent to the exhibition. Any sketches done on our previous visit to the Couthouse precinct would also be welcomed.
