In this immersive workshop series, you will learn how to process wild gathered bark and vines into basketry materials. With these materials, you will create your own unique baskets. Different basketry forms will be utilized through the series. All tools and materials will be provided. All of the materials are locally harvested in South Jersey by the instructor.We have THREE opportunities for you to learn this unique and useful skill!
October 7: the Garlic Basket. This is a small hanging basket used to keep garlic on hand in your kitchen. This basket utilizes the weaving technique called twinning.
October 21: the W**d Basket. This is a small hanging basket used for displaying dried flowers. This basket utilizes the weaving technique called continuous weave.
November 4: Flower Pot Basket. This basket is used to hold a potted plant. This basket utilizes two weaving techniques, start stop weave, and twinning.
About Your Facilitator:
Steven R. Carty is a second generation basket weaver from South Jersey who has taught basket weaving for many years. He has taught multiple forms of basket weaving; however the utilization of wild gathered materials in his weaving is truly a passion of his. He strives to teach others how to create usable art straight from nature, and in a way that is sustainable.
