We are excited to bring back the modular beginner Brazilian Zouk dance training program designed and taught by Will Russ. This program is broken into three 4-week progressive class blocks:🔹Basico
🔹Lateral
🔹Capstone: Connections
Basico and Lateral blocks can be taken in either order, and will introduce variations of movement that can be done from these two most fundamental footwork patterns. Capstone: Connections will connect the two and polish you off as a well-rounded dancer; Basico and Lateral are pre-requisites for Capstone.
Basico will be on Thursdays 7-8:30pm from March 13 - April 3 at Jennifer Dançarina’s home, and enrollment is now open. Each 4-week block series is priced at $45, enroll by sending payment to Jennifer via Venmo (linked), Paypal, Cashapp or Zelle.
Lateral block will run on Tuesdays 7:15-830pm from April 22 - May 13, enrollment for this block will open in early April. Capstone connections may be offered this summer if we have enough qualified students to hold it.
All training will be lead/follow role balanced, please indicate which role you intend to train when you sign up. Minimum of 6 students required to hold session. If we do not reach our minimum by session start class will be cancelled and all enrollment fees refunded. There will be no refunds for any other reason.
Enrollment in any progressive training series organized by Dançarina Events also includes complimentary admission to the weekly Tuesday kizzouk practice social (8:30-10pm) during the run of a class series (normally $6). We encourage all students to plan to attend the social to practice what you are learning and build muscle memory and confidence - competence comes from training and repetition, confidence comes from competence!
What is Brazilian Zouk? It's connection-based partner social dance with well-defined basic steps and rhythmic patterns. It was created in Brazil in the early 1990s fusing elements from Lambada, an older Brazilian cultural dance, modern dance, and ballet. It was inspired by and draws its name from Caribbean Zouk music. The overall plasticity of the movements and the range of musical genres it can be danced to make Brazilian Zouk a partner dance that caters to creativity and improvisation.
Why train with us? Will Russ is the most tenured BZouk instructor in Richmond and the godfather of the RVA Zouk community. Dançarina Events provides dance training and social dance experiences for BZouk, Urban Kiz and Kizomba, with a focus on training and practice to facilitate the development and growth of technically competent and socially confident dancers. We also care deeply about growing dance community that is welcoming, respectful and inclusive to people of all identities and backgrounds.
What shoes to wear? You can train in socks, soft-soled dance shoes, or clean sneakers that were not worn in from the street. Brazilian Zouk dancers usually dance in flats rather than heels.
Note: The Ox is a private home in RVA, all students must be connected to the host Jennifer via Facebook, IG, or mobile phone/text prior to attending. Address will be provided after enrollment. For allergy awareness, one short-haired dog lives in this home.
