A 2-week course offers principles of Adult Education & skills of effective group leadership and facilitation through experiential learning.
About this Event
This course offers practical and experiential learning of basic skills in Adult Education and Group Dynamics / Group Facilitation. The course will include information on creating and marketing groups appropriately.
This course is open to the general public. The course teaches Masters level material that is eligible for Continuing Education Credits. Material is delivered by Masters level educators with decades of Adlerian knowledge in both academic and practice settings.

Course Components:

This course is 2 weeks total, meeting once per week for class instruction from 9am - 4pm PST. It is eligible for 1 Continuing Education Units (CEUs).

Basic Skills in Adult Education & Group Dynamics/Facilitation Skills may be taken as a standalone 2-week course, or, as part of the 8-week Certificate in Parent Education* Program...

While it is not a pre-requisite, it is strongly recommended to have completed Introduction to Adlerian Psychology, either as a standalone course or as part of the Certificate in Parent Education.

* Certificate in Parent Education is an 8-week program providing skills and tools to conceptualize and offer parenting support using a holistic Adlerian approach. Link to the Certificate in Parent Education Eventbrite page:

If you are registering for the Certificate in Parent Education program, you do not need to register for this course separately.


Together we will explore the following units:
  • The Adult Learner
  • Mutual encouragement and support
  • Experiential learning
  • Keeping a group on task
  • Assisting Unlearning
  • Group facilitation for maximum learning
  • Setting up and promoting your parenting or group practice
Dates & Location:
The 2 course dates are Sundays, from 9:00am - 4:00pm PST:
  • October 29th & November 5th

Classes are held in-person at SFU Harbour Centre. It is not recorded and not available online.
Tuition:

$330 (including non-refundable Eventbrite registration fees)

Skills in Adult Ed. is eligible for 0.5 CEU

Group Dynamics/Facilitation Skills is eligible for 0.5 CEU

Assessment:

Courses are assessed entirely on a “Pass” or “No Pass” basis with competency feedback. Students may also be issued a “Remediation” which will specify additional work, or alteration of existing work, before a final grade is issued.

You will be given a Certificate of Completion after the course is finished and you have passed the course modules.

This course is facilitated by Jim Skinner (M.Ed, CPF):

Jim is the Executive Director of The Adler Centre. After retiring from 38 years in Public Education, he has been facilitating parenting workshops and seminars in schools and workplaces for over 30 years in the Greater Vancouver area. He teaches Adlerian Principles at the Post Graduate level. His passion lies in connecting people within the organic fabric of community. His vision is to foster a world with greater cooperation, peace and care of one another.

Refund Policy
Refunds before the program of study begins:

1. If written notice of withdrawal is received by the institution within 7 days after the contract is made, and before the commencement of the period of instruction specified in the contract, the institution may retain 5% of the total tuition and fees due under the contract to a maximum of $250

2. If written notice of withdrawal is received by the institution 30 days or more before the commencement of the period of instruction specified in the contract and more than 7 days after the contract was made, the institution may retain 10% of total tuition only due under the contract to a maximum of $1000

3. If written notice of withdrawal is received by the institution less than 30 days before the commencement of the period of instruction specified in the contract, and more than 7 days after the contract was made, the institution may retain 20% of the total tuition only, due under the contract to a maximum of $1300


Refunds after the program of study starts:

1. If written notice of withdrawal is received by the institution or a student is dismissed before 10% of the period of instruction specified in the contract has elapsed, the institution may retain 30% of the institution due under the contract.

2. If written notice of withdrawal is received by the institution, or a student is dismissed after 10% and before 30% of the period of instruction specified in the contract has elapsed, the institution may retain 50% of the tuition due under the contract

3. If a student withdraws or is dismissed after 30% of the period of instruction specified in the contract has elapsed, no refund is required.


Refund Process

1. Students may request a refund via Eventbrite or by contacting the institution at 604-742-1818 or [email protected]

2. Refunds required under this policy will be paid to the student, or a person who paid the tuition or fees on behalf of the student, within 30 days.

3. There is a non-refundable Eventbrite registration fee for each registration.
