Come pop, lock and shimmy with Amorina in this fun class dedicated to sharp percussive moves and accents mimicking drum patterns and rhythms. These techniques are a great enhancement for multiple dance forms and within Raks Sharki, "belly dance," they are crucial for learning how to capture Middle Eastern instrumentation. One style of dance in particular is the Arabic drum solo. Many beginner dancers hear a drum solo and get overwhelmed by the many layers and intricacies but once you understand how to simplify and mimic different sounds it's highly addictive. Each class we will begin with a warm up and drill basic pop, lock and shimmy moves. Then we will listen to various accents and combine those moves to fit the music. To finish our class we will end with a cool down. Just a reminder we have a practice hour before our class from 5:30-6:30pm so that any students can review or practice with mirror and studio space and also get to know one another. Often when you're first starting out it's nice to feel comfortable and to get much needed feedback.
