This course is designed for recreational boaters, including operators and crew, who have completed the mandatory Pleasure Craft Operator Card course (Boaters Card). It aims to provide more knowledge, skills, and confidence to ensure safe boating in different situations before setting out and while on the water.
The course not only covers collision avoidance rules, docking and anchoring techniques, and other seamanship skills, but also provides a unique focus on traditional navigation techniques.

Boat Handling
You will better understand your responsibilities as an operator and crew, including safety checks and planning your departure. You will better understand your responsibilities as a boater, collision avoidance, operating rules, and basic boat- handling skills.

How to avoid collisions: A Practical Approach
Understanding charts and Aids to Navigation (ATONs)
Confidence when docking and undocking
Techniques for anchoring securely
Knots and Line Handling: How to tie the knots you need to know
Understanding and sourcing weather and marine forecasts
Reading tide and current tables

Basic Navigation
Our Marine Navigation course is designed to equip you with comprehensive navigation essentials. By uniquely combining traditional navigation (plotting and charting) and electronic navigation techniques, you can plan and set out safe routes and stay on course while underway, leaving no stone unturned in your preparation for navigating on the waterways.

What's included?
Reading and interpreting charts nautical charts
Understanding landmarks and navigation aids (buoys, daymarks, lights, etc.)
Plotting courses and determining direction and distance
Reading a compass and converting between true and magnetic bearings
Pre-planning courses and entering it into the e-nav device
Using an electronic navigation device – reading primary displays and interpreting information provided, setting up waypoints and routes, staying on a course and reaching your destination.
Monitoring progress and determining position by both electronic and traditional techniques
