Learn the basics of millinery and and working with Sinamay with milliner Becky-Jane Fortin.Sinamay is a popular hat-making foundation fabric, woven from processed abaca stalks – a type of banana native to the Philippines. Abaca fibre is stronger than silk or cotton and can last for over 100 years.
In this full-day workshop, you will learn essential millinery techniques including edge rolling and folding, bias cutting, covering a headband, manipulating and steaming Sinamay, and invisible stitching.
You will apply these skills to fashion a variety of decorative bows to be attached to headbands to create an variety of stylish headpieces.
