Prerequisites: None. This is an Intro Class
Lesson Description: Mah Jongg is a 4-player Chinese tile game that requires critical thinking, situational awareness, and social intelligence. This event is perfect for anyone new to the game or players who have been out of the game for a time.
Lesson Objectives: After this 9-hour class, multiple sessions, you will be able to:
· Distinguish the tiles: Which tile is which.
· Combine components of a hand: Singles, Pairs, Pungs, Kongs, Quints
· Decode the NMJL card by Category, Line, and reading the (parenthesis).
· Analyze a dealt hand and assess hand development during the Charleston procedure.
· Choose a category or hand to play during the pick & discard phase of the game.
· Demonstrate game setup, mechanics, and protocols.
· Play the game with minimal or no assistance.
Texts or Materials: All materials for this class will be provided by the instructor.
We will use: Mah Jongg Made Easy from the National Mah Jongg League, the Visual Companion Guide for American Mah Jongg from Dara Collins and Donna Kassman, training videos from MAHLIFE, Michele Frizzell, and other classroom aids.
Purchase your own National Mah Jongg League card as soon as you commit to the game.

Caution: Do not purchase the card from any other online source as they may be counterfeit.
Classroom Guidelines:
Please arrive on time for each session and plan to stay until the end.
We will be using the buddy system, so expect to work with a partner for portions of the lesson.
There will be a summary of each session emailed to the students. There will be review homework.
