About this Event
Basic Life Support (BLS) and Heartsaver First Aid/CPR/ AED Instructor candidate Information about American Heart Association (AHA) course.
To become an AHA BLS Instructor, BLS Instructor candidates must:
- Have current BLS Provider status and be proficient in all the skills of that discipline. Note: While AHA BLS Instructors also teach Heartsaver Courses, instructor candidates are not required to have a Heartsaver card in addition to BLS Provider card.
- Successfully complete the BLS Instructor Essentials Course both the online and classroom/hands-on portion.
- Successfully be monitored teaching their first course within six months of completing the discipline-specific classroom Instructor Course (Training Center Coordinators can require additional monitoring if needed).
- Register on the Atlas.heart.org Network and be confirmed by your primary Training Center for issuance of your Instructor ID number, which must be used to issue provider eCards.
- Be accepted by AHA Training Center before enrolling in a BLS Instructor Essentials Course and have a completed Instructor Candidate Application on file with the accepting Training Center.

Required materials- review prior to coming to the course & bring with you:
1. Basic Life Support Provider Manual 2020 (Product # 20-1102)
2. Basic Life Support Instructor Manual 2020 (Product # 20-1103)
3. BLS_Instructor_Essentials_Instructor_Candidate_Workbook 3-4-21 ( Copy will be provided at the session)
4. BLS Instructor Essentials Online (Product # 20-1420) -bring the completion certificate
Non-employee must purchase own materials and bring with them to the course.

- AHA Instructor Network login and password
- PLHS staff also need Extranet & Healthstream login info
Please wear loose, comfortable clothing. You will be practicing skills that require working on your hands and knees, bending, standing, and lifting. If you have physical conditions that might prevent you from participating in the course, please inform the instructors when you arrive for the session. The instructor will work to accommodate your needs within the stated course completion requirements.

- In the event that you are unable to attend, a courtesy call is appreciated.
- Classes may be canceled 72 hours prior if less than 5 participants registered.
- Please reschedule if not feeling well.
