The City of Ann Arbor will celebrate the grand opening of the Barton-Bandemer Pedestrian Tunnel on Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2025, at 1 p.m. City and Washtenaw County Parks and Recreation officials, community members, and project partners will gather for a ribbon-cutting ceremony recognizing the completion of this long-anticipated project on the city’s northwest side. The new pedestrian tunnel connects the Border to Border (B2B) Trail in Barton Nature Area with the existing trail network in Bandemer Park, closing a key gap and linking more than 20 miles of trail to the east. The project also includes new pathway connections and a public art installation, Ode to Huron, by artist Tatum Lowry, who will attend the event.
The tunnel enhances safety and connectivity for trail users and represents a collaborative effort among the City of Ann Arbor, Washtenaw County Parks and Recreation Commission, Huron Waterloo Pathways Initiative, and the Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Foundation. Guests are encouraged to arrive via the B2B Trail; limited parking will be available.
